Coker Softball Takes Two From BAC

BELMONT, N.C. – The Coker softball team defeated Belmont Abbey in a double-header series on Thursday (Mar. 14).  With the win the Cobras improve to 15-7 on the year and 8-2 in league action.

In game one the Crusaders took an early 1-0 lead on the Cobras after an RBI single.  Coker would respond by scoring a run in three straight innings to take a 3-1 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh, Belmont Abbey would score one run, but it was not enough to halt the Cobras from a 3-2 victory.

Lauren Phillips would be credited with the game one win, after pitching a complete game.  Phillips improves to 6-4 on the year.

The navy and yellow started game two with 3-of-4 batters reaching base safety.  Then with the bases loaded and one out, Stacy Burr singled up the middle to drive in the games first RBI and the leading 1-0 run.

Coker would go on to score two more runs in the top of the third, allowing the Cobras to preserve a 3-0 advantage.

Burr was the leading batter for the Cobras, going 3-for-4 at the plate.  She also drove in an RBI, and scored a run.

Breanna Skipper would add to her win column after pitching a complete game on Thursday. Skipper gave up no runs on two hits, and struck out four batters.  She has the highest amount of wins for a pitcher in the league, with a record of 8-1 on the year.

Coker will return home on Saturday (Mar. 16), to face Limestone in a Conference Carolinas double-header.  Game one will start at 1:00 p.m., followed by game two at 3:00 p.m.
