Cobras Drop Two to Mount Olive

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team dropped two games to Mount Olive on Wednesday (Mar. 13), in a Conference Carolinas double-header series.  The Cobras now fall to 13-7 on the year, and 6-2 in league play.

In game one, the Trojans got on the scoreboard early after scoring a run in the first inning.  Mount Olive would then go on to add another run in the sixth, and two more in the seventh to take the game 4-0. 

Lauren Phillips would be marked with the game one loss, after giving up four runs on eight hits.  Phillips drops to 5-4 on the year.

In game two Coker struck first taking an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.  Mount Olive however, would tie the game in the top of the third after a solo homerun. 

Sydney Weatherford would collect her fifth homerun of the year, when she connected on a two run shot in the bottom of the fifth.  Coker would go on to earn another run, to take a slight 4-3 advantage over the Trojans. 

Coker could not hold onto the lead in the top of the seventh, as Mount Olive went on to score four more runs.  The Cobras would respond with an early run in the bottom of the seventh, but could not drive in the necessary two extra runs to tie the game.  Mount Oliver would go on to win the game by a final score of 7-5.

Logan Cox (0-2) would be tacked with the loss in game two, after giving up four runs on three hits. 

The navy and yellow will travel to face Belmont Abbey for their next competition on Thursday (Mar. 14).  Game one of the double-header series is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start time.
