HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Coker College softball team had three players receive Conference Carolinas Softball Honors at the tournament banquet Thursday night. Freshman Katie McElveen (Hartsville, S.C.) received the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year Award, while senior Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, Ill.) was named First Team All-Conference and freshman Stacy Burr (Darlington, S.C.) was named Second Team All-Conference.

McElveen was the Cobras offensive leader with a .317 batting average, 11 doubles, five home runs and 27 RBIs.

Greenwalt was the ace of Coker’s pitching staff with an 11-7  record a 1.55 ERA, 14 complete games, six shutouts and 66 strikeouts.

Burr was one of the best hitting catchers in the conference this season with a .296 batting average, four home runs, 22 RBIs and seven doubles.

Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams were determined by vote from each head coach of participating league institutions.  Nominations are collected and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-Conference First Team, and All-Conference Second Team.  Awards were presented at the Conference Carolinas softball team banquet at the Conference Tournament Championships hosted by Coker College at Byerly Park, in Hartsville SC.  This year’s award winners are as follows:

Player of the Year: Jessica McFadden-Barton College

Pitcher of the Year: Kelsey Spurrier-Erskine College

Freshman of the Year: Katie McElveen-Coker College

Coach of the Year: Merritt Yackey-Lees-McRae College

Regular Season Champion: Limestone College
