FLORENCE, S.C. – The Coker softball team closed out their weekend at the Francis Marion Softball Tournament in Florence by going 1-1 against West Liberty State. The Cobras lost game one to the Hilltoppers 9-8, but bounced back with a 9-0 win in a five inning shortened game two.

In game one Jordan Atkinson (Bishopville, S.C.) was slated with the loss allowing six runs on two hits in five innings of work.

Alex Cataldo (Sumter, S.C.) had a grand slam with four RBIs, while Katie McElveen (Hartsville, S.C.) and Sydney Weatherford (Scranton, S.C.) each had home runs for the Cobras. McElveen’s was a two-run homer and Weatherford’s was a solo shot.

The second game of the day was an offensive explosion for the Cobras as they scored nine runs in five innings.  McElveen and Weatherford both hit their second homers of the day to lead the Cobras at the plate, while Gina Easler (Edgefield, S.C.) had a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, Ill.) got the win going five innings allowing just four hits with a strikeout.

The Cobras return to the friendly confines of the Saleeby-Stokes Field at Coker on Monday for a Conference Carolinas doubleheader against St. Andrews starting at 2:00 p.m.
