FLORENCE, S.C. – In their first day of play at the Francis Marion Softball Tournament, the Coker Cobras went 1-1 with a win over host Francis Marion (1-0) and an extra innings loss to Brevard College (3-2).

In their first game the Cobras picked up the 1-0 win over the Patriots thanks to a run scored by Katie McElveen (Hartsville, S.C.) in the first inning. From there out it was all up the Coker defense and pitcher Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, Ill.). The Cobras’ senior hurler scattered seven Patriot hits over seven innings with five strikeouts to earn the win.

Even though they won the game, the Cobras only had one hit in the game, a single by Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.).

The Cobras second game of the day was an extra inning affair that saw Coker take a 3-2 loss to Brevard College.

Jordan Atkinson (Bishopville, S.C.) went the distance tossing all nine innings allowing three runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts.

Gina Easler (Edgefield, S.C.) was the Cobras leading hitter with a pair of hits including a home run and an RBI, while Bri Jacobs (Bolton, N.C.) had a double with a run scored and Stacy Burr (Darlington, S.C.) also had a double and an RBI.
