Hartsville, S.C. – After nearly a week off, the Coker Softball team returned to their winning ways with a pair of wins over Davis and Elkins College in non-conference softball action on Wednesday afternoon. Coker won game one 6-2 and then won game two 10-1.

The wins improve the Lady Cobras to 9-7 on the year, while Davis and Elkins is still looking for their first victory of the season at 0-9.

Game One
Coker used a two run third inning and four run fourth inning to capture the 6-2 win in game one, while the Senators scoring a run in each of the last two innings.

Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, SC) (5-4) earned the win, dominating the Senators for five innings allowing just one hit while striking out eight. Bridget Ours took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in three innings on the mound.

Brittany Owens (Johnsonville, SC) was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored to lead the Lady Cobras at the plate, while Catlett helped her own cause going 2-for-2, with two RBIs and two runs scored, with Miranda Klees (Murrells Inlet, SC) going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

For the Senators, Jennie Finafrock and Megan Kennon each had a hit, while scoring a run.

Game Two
Coker exploded for six runs in the third inning, breaking a 1-1 tie, before adding three insurance runs in the fourth on their way to the 10-1 win in game two.

Catlett (6-4) got her second win of the day, allowing one run on two hits with a pair of strike outs in three innings, while Britne Bacca took the loss, allowing 10 runs on 15 hits with six strike outs.

Haleigh Rogers (Ward, SC) was a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate for Coker, while Owens was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and three runs scored, with Klees picking up a pair of hits, including a double with an RBI.

Jessie Pifer had two hits with a run scored for Davis and Elkins, with Ashley Uberty picking up a hit and Betsie Smith going 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Coker returns to the field on Friday when they begin play in the Patriot Invitational Softball Tournament at Freedom Florence in Florence, S.C. hosted by Francis Marion University.
