Banner Elk, NC- With a pair of victories over the Lees-McRae Bobcats on Wednesday afternoon, Coker College Head Softball Coach David Hanna earned his 600th career victory. All 600 of Coach Hanna’s victories have come at Coker. He now holds an all-time record of 600-161-1 since 1992 with the Cobras.

 

Coker won game one 8-7 behind the pitching of Somer Bigham (20-8), as she struck out 10, allowed seven runs on nine hits and had one walk.

 

Jessica Blackwell and Kimberly Atkinson were each 2-for-4 at the plate for the Cobras, with Blackwell hitting a triple with two RBIs and Atkinson blasting a home run and two RBIs. Also going 2-for-4 was Jenna Beatty with a double.

 

In game two, the Cobras shut out the Bobcats 12-0. Shelly Catlett (14-2) earned the win with a complete game shut out, five strike outs and only allowing four hits.

 

Ashton Williamson and Blackwell were each 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Kimberly Atkinson was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Eunice Nettles was 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

 

Coker will now prepare for the post season and the 2007 CVAC Softball Tournament. The tournament begins Friday, April 20, at Byerly Park in Hartsville, SC. The Cobras are the #2 seed in the tournament and they will play the winner of the #7 seed versus #10 seed at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
