GAFFNEY, S.C.The Limestone College softball team lost both games in a doubleheader to Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference-rival Coker College on Thursday afternoon. Limestone begins conference play with an 0-2 record (6-12 overall) as the Cobras improve to 6-2 in the CVAC (15-4 overall).

 

In the day's first game, Somer Bigham struck out four batters in the first four innings for the win, as Shelly Catlett finished out the game. Lady Saint Lisa DeMarr got the loss.

 

Coker scored three runs in both the first and third off homeruns for a 6-0 lead. Brittany Owen's homerun in the third put Limestone on the board. The Cobras had another run in the sixth for the 7-1 win.

 

Kimberly Atkinson was 2-for-4 for Coker with a home run and two RBIs, while Ashton Williamson was 2-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs.

 

Samantha Weaver hit a double for Limestone.

 

In game two, Coker scored the only runs of the contest in the fourth inning. A double by Katie McCauly put the first point on a board. Atkinson followed up with a home run for three RBIs for the 4-0 win.

 

Jennifer Casement was tagged with the loss as she struck out six batters, and Bigham picked up her second win of the day.

 

Limestone travels to Charlotte, N.C., on Monday to face CVAC-rival Queens on at 5 p.m., while Coker returns to the field tomorrow as they take on USC-Upstate in the Francis Marion Invitational at 4:00 p.m.
