Hartsville, SC- The Coker Cobras and the Anderson Trojans split their first CVAC double-header of the season on Saturday afternoon. Coker won the first game 2-0, while Anderson won the second game 6-4. Coker is now 8-3 overall, and 1-1 in the CVAC, while Anderson is 9-6 overall and 1-1 in the CVAC.

 

Game One

 

Game one was a pitchers duel between Ashley Rogers and Somer Bigham, which in the end saw Bigham come out on top. Between the two they combined for seven strikeouts and only allowed 11 hits and two runs.

 

Bigham (6-2) earned the win, allowing four hits, with six strikeouts in the shutout victory.

 

Rogers (2-3) took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits.

 

Leading the Coker hitters was Allie Bragg, who was 1-for-1 with an RBI and two walks, while Jamie Horton was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

 

For Anderson, Kayla Thrasher was 2-for-3 with a triple, while Stephanie Griffis was 1-for-3 with a double.

 

 

Game Two

 

In game two both teams go on the board early, starting with Anderson’s two runs on two hits in the first. The Cobras followed right behind with three runs on three hits in the bottom half of the first, give Coker a 3-2 lead. Anderson would not be held down, tacking on two more runs in the second on three hits for a 4-3 lead.

 

That is were the game would remain until the fifth inning when the Trojans added another two runs on two hits. Coker answered with a run in their half of the fifth, but that would be all that the Cobras would manage, as Anderson took a 6-4 victory.

 

Bigham (6-3) took the loss, throwing another complete game, allowing six runs on 11 hits, with four strikeouts.

 

Griffis (1-1) earned the win, allowing four runs on 10 hits, with eight strikeouts.

 

Katie McCauley was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored to lead the Cobras, while Kimberly Atkinson was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

 

Meredith Know was a perfect 4-for-4 for Anderson, with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Ellen Steele and Kayla Williams each had home runs in the game.

 

Coker returns to action on Monday, since their game on Sunday, has been cancelled, the Cobras host Shaw at 2:00p.m. Anderson’s next game will be Sunday, as they host Carson-Newman at 1:30 p.m.
