Hartsville, SC- The Coker College Softball Team stole a pair of one run victories from the Claflin University Panthers on Sunday afternoon in collegiate softball. The Cobras won game one 6-5 and then won game two 5-4. With the wins Coker is now 7-2 on the season.

 

Game one, as saw Coker jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Katie McCauley scored on a Miranda Klees double. The Cobras added two more runs in the second inning from Jessica Blackwell and Ashton Williamson.

Claflin plated two runs of their own in the fourth, cutting the lead to 3-2, but Coker added a run of their own regaining the two run advantage. Two more Cobra runs in the fifth made it 6-2, but the Panthers cut the lead to one with three runs in the sixth. Coker held on in the seventh for the 6-5 victory.

 

Shelly Catlett (2-0) earned the win on the mound, throwing a complete game, allowing five runs on six hits, with 11 strikeouts.

 

Allie Bragg led the Coker hitters, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Ashton Williamson was also 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

 

In game two, the Cobras went down 4-1 early, before fighting back and scoring four runs unanswered runs off three hits and a Claflin error in the fifth. The Cobras then held on for their second win of the day.

 

Somer Bigham (5-2) earned the win, tossing a complete game, allowing four runs on nine hits, while striking out 10.

 

Leading Coker at the plate was Ashton Williamson going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and a run scored, while Jamie Horton was also 2-for-3 with a run scored.

 

Coker gets a week long break before their next game on Saturday, February 24. The Cobras will host their first CVAC series of the season against Anderson University starting at 2:00 p.m.
