Hartsville, SC- The Coker College Softball Team took two games from the North Greenville Crusaders on Saturday afternoon in a collegiate softball double-header. Coker won game on 3-1, and followed up with a 9-4 victory in game two. Coker is now 4-1 overall on the season, while North Greenville is 0-2.

Game one, was a pitcher’s duel with the score remaining close the entire game. Coker jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after an Anna Lucas triple and a Katie McCauley RBI single. The Cobras added another run in the third when Miranda Klees’s RBI single brought around McCauley. Coker’s final run came in the fifth inning as McCauley drove in her second run of the day with an RBI double.

North Greenville’s only run came in the top of the seventh when freshman pinch hitter Krista Laird took Shelly Catlett deep over the left field fence on the first pitch of her first college at bat.

Somer Bigham (2-1) earned the win throwing five and a third innings allowing just three hits, with one walk, while striking out 12.

Ashley Warlick (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

McCauley was the Cobras leading hitter, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Anna Lucas was also 2-for-3 with a run scored in the game.

The Crusaders Lindsey Eargle finished 2-for-3, while Laird was 1-for-1 with a homerun, an RBI and a run scored.

In game two, both teams battled in a 0-0 deadlock until the third inning when Coker plated three runs on a McCauley three run homer to right field. North Greenville answered with two runs in the top of the fourth, when Brandy Jackson hit a two run double down the left field line.

Unfortunately, for North Greenville Coker would not let it stay that close for long, scoring six runs on seven hits and three errors in the fifth. The Crusaders added two more runs in the sixth for a 9-4 ball game, but that would be all they would manage, as the Cobras rolled on to victory.

Bigham (3-1) earned her second win of the day, allowing two runs on four hits with five strike outs.
