Orangeburg, SC- The Cobra Softball Team won and lost their second and third games of the Claflin Softball Tournament on Saturday. Coker started the day with a 5-4 loss to Breneau College, but was able to bounce back with a 2-1 victory over Benedict College. With the win and loss, Coker is now 2-1 overall on the season.

 

In game one, Somer Bigham (1-1) took the loss for the Cobras. Bigham had to relieve Shelley Catlett after two innings of work, giving up three runs on four hits with a strikeout, while Bigham allowed two runs on three hits, with six strikeouts.

 

Leading the Cobra offense was Anna Lucas going 2-for-4 with a triple, while Allie Bragg was 2-for-3. Jessica Blackwell was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Katie McCauley was 1-for-2 with a double.

 

In the second game versus Benedict, Catlett (1-0) bounced back with a seven inning, four strikeout performance. Whitney Watts was the offensive leader, going 2-for-3 with a double, and triple along with scoring the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Miranda Klees was also 2-for-3 in the game.

 

The Lady Cobras return to the field on Saturday, February 10. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
