ANDERSON, S.C. -- Three Coker pitchers limited Anderson University to three hits and struck out 24 in two games to lead the Cobras to a sweep of a CVAC doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Smethers Field.


In the first game, Coker's Somer Bigham pitched a two-hitter and struck out 15 to lead the Cobras to a 2-1 victory.


Coker got a solo home run from Kimberly Atkinson in the second and a run-scoring double by Anna Lucas in the sixth.


Anderson broke up Bigham's shutout in the seventh on a solo home run by Kayla Williams, her fifth of the season.


The Lady Trojans had the tying run standing on second with one out, but Bigham got a strikeout and a ground out to end in the game.


In the second game, Coker collected 17 hits and Bigham, Amanda Shelton, and Shelly Catlett combined for a one-hit shutout as the Cobras rolled to a 13-0 victory in five innings.


Just two of Coker's 17 hits were for extra bases -- an RBI triple by Jessica Blackwell in the second and a two-run homer by Jacque Stewart in the third.


Coker scored three in the first, two in the second, two in the third, and five in the fourth. In the five-run fourth, Coker opened the inning with five consecutive singles.
Blackwell, Amy Shelley, and Marie Mascio all had three hits apiece for Coker.


Bigham struck out the side in the first before being lifted for
Shelton, who allowed just one hit and struck out five in three innings. Catlett pitched a perfect fifth to end the game.


Coker improves to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the CVAC, while
Anderson falls to 7-9, 2-2.
