SALISBURY, NC — Coker went 3-2 at the Catawba College tournament this weekend in collegiate softball.  The Cobras defeated Lincoln Memorial 6-5, Queens 6-5, and West Virginia Wesleyan 6-3 before falling 3-0 against Catawba and 1-0 against Mt. Olive. 

On Friday night CC knocked off Lincoln Memorial despite being outhit 12-8.  Freshman Kimberly Atkinson hit a homerun and drove in three and Nicole Crider went 2-4 with a run scored and one RBI.  Amanda Shelton earned the win, allowing only one earned run and striking out three.

In the first game on Saturday the Cobras powered past Queens on the strength of three homeruns.  Jessica Blackwell went 3-4 with a homer, a stolen base and two RBI, and Christan Morabito hit a solo shot.  Jacque Stewart had two hits including a homerun, scored twice and drove in a run.  Somer Bigham earned the win, pitching four innings with five strikeouts.

Against West Virginia Wesleyan, Crider hit her first homerun of the year and drove in two runs.  Eunice Nettles/Pelion, SC went 2-3 with a run scored and Whitney Grooms had a double.

The Cobras dropped their last two games in Salisbury, falling to the host Indians Saturday night and then to Mt. Olive on Sunday.  Coker didn’t score a run in either game but gave up only four runs.

Next weekend the Cobras will play in the Francis Marion Tournament at Freedom Florence.  CC will take on USC Upstate at 4:00 PM on Friday and then Goldey Beacom later that night.
