HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker took game one of its double header with Anderson College 6-1 but dropped the second game 3-1 in its first softball conference double-header of the year.  The Cobras (3-5, 1-1) return to action in Hartsville on Sunday against St. Andrews at 2:00 PM.

Coker put three on the board in the third inning with three consecutive singles and a double from junior Marie Mascio/Pelion, SC.  Doubles by Tiffany Johnson/Conway, SC and Nicole Crider/Florence, SC led to two more runs in the fourth and CC put one more up in the sixth on a single by Crider.

Lindsay Crump was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth inning and replaced in the lineup by Brandi Elrod.  Elrod came around to score from second on a single by Maranda Passmore.

Somer Bigham/Florence, SC earned the win for CC, pitching a complete game with three hits allowed and three strikeouts.  Ashley Rogers took the loss, allowing nine hits and walking four in defeat.

A rocky start to the third inning by pitcher Amanda Shelton/Huntington Beach, CA gave Anderson all the offense they would need in game two.  Rachelle Lawrence led off with a double and Kristen Price followed with a home run to stake Anderson to a 2-0 lead.  Crider scored in the sixth to make it 2-1 but AC scored in the seventh on an error by the first baseman.

Fallon Downs scattered eight hits over seven innings to take the victory in game two.  Shelton also allowed eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts, but her mistake in the third led to defeat.

Crider’s hitting binge continued today as she went 5-7 overall with three RBI and a run scored.  Jessica Blackwell/Hartsville, SC had four hits and a run scored and Johnson finished with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI.
