Cobras Host Barton Tuesday For Senior Night

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's volleyball team will host Barton on Tuesday (Apr. 4) during senior night in the DeLoach Center. Devion Whetstone and Artur Cabral will be the seniors being honored for tomorrow night's match. First serve is set for 7 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at www.cokercobras.com.

The Cobras and Bulldogs previously met on Feb. 24 when Coker lost 3-0 at Barton. Offensively, Gabriel Castro laid down nine kills and one service ace to lead the Cobras. On the defensive end of the ball, Gary Baker collected eight digs and Gabriel Castro added three total blocks during the match.

The Navy and Gold enter tomorrow's match riding a three-match win streak and currently hold a 12-8 overall record. In addition, the Cobras are fourth in the nation in aces per set, averaging 1.69. In their previous three matches, Coker has had dominating victories over Alderson Broaddus (3-0), Erskine (3-1), and Emmanuel (3-0). Leading the way offensively this season for the Cobras has been Joao Victor Santos who has laid down a team-best 201 kills. In addition, Aleska Bijelic has been a pivotal piece of the Cobras offense, dishing out a team-high 421 assists. On the defensive end of the ball, the Navy and Gold have received standout performances from Luca Berger (54 total blocks) and Gary Baker (134 digs).

The Bulldogs enter tomorrow's match riding a four-game win streak and boast an 18-5 overall record. In addition, Barton comes in at fifth in the nation in hitting percentage (.328) and first in the nation in aces per set (1.92). Offensively, Barton is led by Vasilis Mandilaris who has tallied a team-best 249 kills. Federico Pagliara is another major contributor offensively for the Bulldogs with a team-high 726 assists. Pagliara averages 10.54 assists per set, good for second in the nation.
