Cobras Earn Season Sweep Over Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Coker College men's volleyball team (11-8) defeated the Erskine College Flying Feet (3-18) by a score of 3-1 for the second time this season on Tuesday (Mar. 28) evening. Coker improved to 5-2 on the season against teams in Conference Carolinas.  It was the second consecutive victory for the Cobras, who beat Alderson Broaddus 3-0 last Friday (Mar. 24) night.

After dropping the second set 25-20, Coker responded by claiming the third set 26-24, and then dominating Erskine 25-9 in the fourth and decisive set.

Joao Victor Santos led the way with 14.5 points, while sophomore Gabriel Castro chipped in with 11.5 points and an impressive .304 hitting percentage.  Gary Baker recorded 13 digs in the victory and Stephen Porras chipped in with 31 assists.

The Cobras were dominant in the fourth set where they hit for an impressive .550 percentage.  Coker recorded 16 blocks on the game, led by Luca Berger's four blocks, whereas Erskine had only four blocks throughout the match.    

Next up for the Cobras is a rematch against Emmanuel at 3pm on Saturday (Apr. 1).  Coker defeated Emmanuel back on Feb. 18 by a 3-2 final score. Joao Victor Santos led the Cobras offensively with a team-high 17 kills during the match.

Tickets will be $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free to all Coker faculty, staff, and students.
