Cobras Roll Past Erskine Tuesday Evening

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's volleyball team rolled past the Erskine College Flying Fleet with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-18) victory Tuesday (Feb. 7) evening in the DeLoach Center.

After dropping the first set of the match, the Cobras responded by taking the next three sets for the match victory. The Cobras dug themselves an early hole in the second set of play, until five consecutive points gave Coker a 20-16 lead. A service ace from Luca Berger and a kill by Devion Whetstone highlighted the five-point scoring streak.

The Navy and Gold held their slim lead during the rest of the second set for the 25-23 victory. Next, the Cobras went on to win the third and fourth sets comfortably. A 25-16 final capped the third set victory and a 25-18 final score captured the fourth set and match win.

Joao Victor Santos continues to be a force on the offensive end for Coker with a team-best 12 kills during the match. On the defensive side, the Navy and Gold received stand out performances from Luca Berger (three total blocks) and Joao Victor Santos (eight digs).

The Cobras will be back in action on Feb. 10 when they travel to Bluefield for a 7 p.m. match.
