Coker’s Santos Named to 2016 Freshman All-American Team

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College men's volleyball right-side hitter Joao Victor Santos was named to the 2016 Off the Block/Springbak, Inc Freshman All-American Team, the website announced today. 

The Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Freshmen All-American Team is voted on by a nine-person nationwide committee and honors the top NCAA Division I-II men's volleyball freshmen players from the regular season. It is also the only Freshmen All-American Team presented in college men's volleyball.

In his first year with the Navy and Gold, Santos ranks No. 13 in NCAA DI/DII with a 3.73 kills per set average. On the season, the Brazilia, Brazil native belted 272 kills and had 10 matches of 15 or more kills, including a program record 27 kills in matches versus Limestone and Emmanuel. Behind the service line, he was equally as dominant, ranking No. 10 in the country with .44 service aces per set. Lastly, his 4.49 points per set average ranks him No. 11 in NCAA DI/DII.

This is the second accolade Santos has received from Off the Block/Springback. Inc., as he was named the National Freshman of the Week back in February.

He is a business major and is the son of Nubia Oliveria and Joao Santos.
