Cobras Take Down Tornado in Five Sets

BRISTOL, TENN. – The Coker College men's volleyball team picked up a 3-2 road win against the King University Tornado on Saturday (Apr. 2) afternoon. 

The Cobras came out of the gates hot, pulling out to an early 2-0 lead (25-22, 25-20), after hitting .517 and .300 in the opening two sets. However, the Tornado would not go down quietly, winning sets three and four by scores of 25-21 and 25-20. In the fifth and decisive set, Coker opened up a 10-4 lead. Once again, King fought back, tying the set up at 11-11. However, the Cobras would regain momentum, winning four of the next five points to win the set 15-12 and win the match 3-2.

It was the trio of Joao Victor Santos, Artur Cabral and Luke Hansen that led the way for the Navy and Gold. Santos notched a double double, belting 23 kills and recording 14 digs. Cabral finished with 19 kills and four aces, while Hansen notched 13 kills six digs. Liam Flaherty recorded 11 digs, while Aleksa Bijelic paced the offense with 57 assists. As a team, Coker dished out a program-record 65 assists.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 6) when they travel to take on Emmanuel College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
