Cobras Eyeing Dethronement of Knights in Midweek Matchup

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's volleyball team will be back in the friendly confines of the DeLoach Center on Tuesday (Jan. 26) to take on the visiting St. Andrews University Knights. First serve is set for 7 p.m., with live stats and video available at www.cokercobras.com

The Cobras enter the matchup with a 3-2 record and this is the first matchup between the two teams.

As a team, the Navy and Gold are second in NCAA DI and DII in aces per set, averaging 2.81 per set. The Cobras also come in ranked No. 22 in blocks per set, at 2.06 blocks per set.

Individually, the Brazilian trio of Joao Victor Santos, Artur Cabral and Gabriel Castro lead the attack for Coker. Santos has a team-high 39 kills and is averaging three kills per set. Cabral enters the matchup third in NCAA DI-DII in service aces per set, averaging .80 per set, to go along with 33 kills so far this season. Castro is second in the country, averaging .85 service aces per set. Luke Hansen is also making a splash in the aces per set column, averaging .62 aces per set, which is good enough for eighth in the country. At the set position, Hansen and Aleksa Bijelic pace the offense with 53 and 46 assists apiece.

The Knights come into the contest with a 0-1 overall record, after a lost to Belmont Abbey in the program's inaugural match. They are led by the six kills of Leandro Custodio.

First serve is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, (Jan. 26) with the doors of the DeLoach Center opening at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 dollars for adults, $3 dollars for students, and free for all Coker students, faculty and staff.
