Coker’s Cabral Named to Bryan Ivie Award Watch List

HARTSVILLE, S.C. –Coker College junior right side/outside hitter, Artur Cabral, was named to the 2016 Bryan Ivie Award Watch List, which Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. announced today. 

Fifteen players were named to the watch list for the national award that is presented to the best opposite in NCAA Division I and II men's volleyball during the regular season.

Cabral finished the 2015 season second in all of Division I-II Men's Volleyball in aces per set with .53 and his 3.90 kills per set were in the top-10 nationally, as well. He played in all 28 matches last season for the Cobras, breaking numerous single-season team records.

He holds the record for most kills in a season with 367, most kills per set, averaging 3.90, most service aces in a season with 50, block assists at 56 on the season, most aces in a match with six and the single-match kill record with 24 kills in a match against Belmont Abbey. He also had 20-plus kills in four matches and recorded double-digit kills in 20 matches.

This is the fourth accolade to the Marceio, Brazil native has received from Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. He was named to the 2015 All-Independent Team, the Independent Player of the Year and the Fan Choice National Player of the Year.

Artur is a computer science major and the son of Wladia Bessa and Helio Cabral Jr.

About the Bryan Ivie Award

The Bryan Ivie Award started in 2015 and was named after the former USC All-American and former member of the U.S. Men's National Team. The naming of the award after a player was done in an effort to honor and incorporate the history of college volleyball into this award. The winner of the Bryan Ivie Award will be selected at the end of the regular season by a nationwide voting committee comprised of coaches and media members. The top-three vote-getters will be named finalists, while the player receiving the most votes will be winner of the Bryan Ivie Award presented by Off the Block.
