Cobras Split Doubleheader with Golden Eagles and Crusaders

CHARLESTON, W. VA. – The Coker men's volleyball team went 2-0 on Friday (Mar. 13) afternoon against the University of Charleston (W.V.) and Belmont Abbey College.

In match one, Coker would dominate the Golden Eagles 3-0 with set scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-21, respectively.

Leading Coker was Artur Cabral with 11 kills and two service aces. Luke Hansen added eight kills and four service aces, while Leshon Alexander knocked home six kills. Aleksa Bijelic paced the offense and led the defense with 30 assists and seven digs.

In match two, Cabral would tie the single-match record for kills (24), but Coker would fall in five to the Crusaders. The Cobras won sets two and four 25-20 and 25-18, respectively, while Belmont Abbey took sets one, three and five with scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 15-6.

In addition to Cabral's 24 kills, the Cobras were led by Hansen's 11 kills and three service aces. Jesse Day led the defense with 14 digs and Bijelic dished out 40 assists.

The Cobras will take an extended break before hosting the Crusaders of North Greenville on Tuesday (Mar. 24). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
