Coker Suffers Loss to Division I NJIT in Home Opener

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to Division I foe New Jersey Institute of Technology on Thursday (Jan. 29) night.

The opening set between the Cobras and Highlanders would be a tightly contested slugfest. Neither team would hold a lead larger than two, until NJIT broke the trend and registered three straight points late to take the set 25-21. The match's intensity in the second set would mirror the first, but the Highlanders would capitalize on Coker errors and win the set 25-23. The third set was another competitive affair that saw NJIT use the momentum from its two-set lead to capture a 25-18 set win and 3-0 match victory.

Artur Cabral led the Cobra offense with seven kills, four blocks and two service aces. Luke Hansen added eight kills and four digs, while Leshon Alexander knocked home seven kills of his own. Aleksa Bijelic paced the offense with 23 assists.

The Navy and Yellow will hit the road for its next match on Tuesday (Feb. 3) against former Conference Carolinas foe Erskine College. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Due West, S.C.
