Cobras Drop First Two Matches of West Coast Road Trip

PHOENIX, ARIZ. – The Coker men's volleyball team kicked off the 2015 season with a doubleheader against Grand Canyon University and Hope International University on Thursday (Jan. 15). The Cobras concluded the day with two, tough, 3-0 losses to the Antelopes and Royals.

In match one, the Cobras would fall behind early on and would suffer a 25-7 loss in the first set. Coker would jump out to an early 4-1 lead in the second, but it would be short-lived as Grand Canyon used a 7-1 run to take an 8-5 lead. The Antelopes would eventually capture the back-and-forth set, 25-17, over the Cobras. Set three would belong to Grand Canyon as they captured a 25-14 victory and 3-0 match win.

Leading Coker in match one was Artur Cabral with seven kills. Luke Hansen finished with six kills and a team-high four digs, while Jared Geizer added four kills and three digs.

Match two saw the Cobras and Royals rumble, but Hope International would squeak out tough 25-21, 25-18 and 25-20 set victories, respectively, to notch the 3-0 match victory.

Leshon Alexander and Hansen led the offense with eight kills and three digs apiece. Cabral added six kills, while Liam Flaherty led the defense with six digs.

The Navy and Yellow will conclude its West Coast road trip Friday (Jan. 16) night with an 8 p.m. matchup with the Antelopes of Grand Canyon University.
