Cobras Fall to Trojans on the Road

MT. OLIVE, N.C. – The Coker men's volleyball team was unable to pick up a win against the University of Mount Olive Trojans on Tuesday (Feb. 4) night in men's collegiate volleyball action. The Cobras dropped the match 3-0 to their former Conference Carolinas rival.

The Cobras and Trojans both came out strong in set one as the teams battled back-and-forth, but a late six-point run by Mount Olive to make the score 19-11 would be the deciding factor in them taking set one 25-17. The second set would be a dandy as both teams traded point after point leading to a slugfest tiebreak that the Trojans would eventually take 37-35. In the third and final set Coker would ultimately beat themselves with attack errors allowing Mount Olive to take the set 25-22.

Jared Geizer and Artur Cabral led Coker's offense with 12 kills apiece and five digs and four blocks, respectively. Cooper Lyon tallied a game-high 14 digs to lead the Cobras' defense, while Ricardo Ferrer dished out 34 assists with six digs.

Coker will conclude its five-match road trip this Saturday (Feb. 8) when they take on the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
