Men's Tennis Falls in Opening Matches of Florence Invite

FLORENCE, S.C. - Coker University's men's tennis team dropped their first two matches of the season on Saturday (Feb. 5) at the Florence College Tennis Invitational. The Cobras came up just short to Newberry College 4-3 and fell to Barton College 4-2.

In the match against Barton, Coker won the point from doubles thanks to the No. 1 doubles team of Samuel Winter and Thibaut Decaluwe and the No. 2 doubles team of Sean Keane and Isaac MacMillan. Winter/Decaluwe defeated Stahlbrand/Stone 7-5 while Keane/MacMillan won 6-4. Decaluwe was also victorious in the No. 3 singles slot, as he dispatched Hannes Tylehed 6-2, 7-6.

The doubles combinations were successful in match two of the day, as Winter/Decaluwe defeated Newberry's Friedland/Schomburg 6-3 and Keane/MacMillan topped Bivol/Blavignat 6-1. Keane went on to beat Schomburg at No. 2 singles by a 6-4, 6-2 score and Winter got the win at No. 5 singles over Blavignat 6-1, 6-2.
