TEMPE, Ariz. - The Coker College men's and women's tennis teams have been named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team, the association announced today. Additionally, 11 total players from the 2017-18 men's and women's tennis rosters were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. In all, more than 4,300 scholar-athletes were recognized across all divisions, along with over 730 All-Academic teams.

"I am extremely proud to have both our men's and women's squads honored as an ITA All-Academic Team," said Coker Head Tennis Coach, Tom Simpson. "Our student-athletes set the bar high for themselves and work extremely hard in the classroom and on the court. It's excellent to see them honored for their commitment to academic success."

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or above. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, a player had to be a varsity letter winner, post a 3.50 GPA or better and be enrolled at their present institution for at least two semesters.

On the men's side, the Cobras finished the 2017-18 year with a remarkable 3.73 cumulative GPA, the highest mark in the Coker athletic department. Scholar-Athlete award winners include Simon Bergbom, Felix Schweyer, Mark Watt, Henrik Hellbe, Hunter Horton, and Justus Lehman.
