Men’s Tennis Drops Hard-Fought 5-4 Decision to No. 38 Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Coker College men's tennis team (10-8 overall) dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to the No. 38 Newberry College Wolves in South Atlantic Conference action Thursday (Apr. 5) afternoon.

The Cobras started the match strong, taking two of the three doubles matches. The duo of Mark Watt and Henrik Hellbe earned an 8-5 decision at the No. 1 slot, improving their record to 10-7. Next, the tandem of Felix Schweyer and Dominic Allan picked up an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles, upgrading their record to a team-best 9-3 on the year.

In singles action, Watt battled for a 7-5, 0-6, 6-0 decision at the No. 1 position, improving his record to 14-4 on the season. Justus Lehman followed Watt with a 7-6, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles. Lehman upgraded his singles record to 13-3 on the year.

The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday (Apr. 8) when they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne to take on the Bears at 12 p.m.
