Cobras Blank Fire Ants in Day One of USC Sumter Invitational

SUMTER, S.C. – The Coker College men's tennis team blanked the USC Sumter Fire Ants 9-0 Friday (Feb. 2) afternoon in day one of the USC Sumter Invitational. The Cobras fell to The Citadel in their final match of the day. 

Against USC Sumter, Mark Watt and Henrik Hellbe picked up an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, while Hunter Horton and Justus Lehman earned an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles. Felix Schweyer and Dominic Allan capped off the doubles sweep with a tough 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles. 

The Cobras continued their dominance during the contest by capturing victories in all six matches of singles play. Watt picked up a 6-1, 6-1 straight sets win at No. 1 singles, while Horton recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles. Next, Schweyer gutted out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles and Allan followed suit with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Finally, Lehman collected a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles, while Walker Long picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. 

The doubles combo of Horton and Lehman picked up the Cobras lone victory against The Citadel. 

The Cobras will wrap up play at the USC Sumter Invitational tomorrow (Feb. 3) when they take on Benedict at 9:30 a.m. and Erskine at 1:30 p.m.
