Cobras Host Wingate, Queens in SAC Tilts this Weekend

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker men's tennis will battle Wingate and Queens this weekend  (Sat. Apr. 8-Sun. 9) at home in a pair of South Atlantic Conference matches.

Coker defeated Mars Hill on the road back on Tuesday (Apr. 4) by a score of 8-1. The Navy and Gold swept doubles play starting with an 8-5 win at No. 1 by Felix Schweyer and Simon Bergbom. Henrik Hellbe and Hunter Horton earned an 8-1 win at No. 2, while Mark Watt and Dominic Allan won 8-5 at No. 3. Watt went on to take the No. 1 singles match in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) while Schweyer won at No. 3 6-4, 6-1. Horton posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4, and Bergbom picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5. Allan won at No. 6 in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 to finish off the win.

Watt and Schweyer lead the Cobras with 12 wins apiece on the year in singles play. Hunter Horton (9-7) is one win away from double digits, and all three have four conference wins to their credit. On the doubles side, Horton and doubles partner Hellbe have 10 wins, with three of them coming in conference.

The Bulldogs come into the weekend 12-3 overall and 7-1 in the SAC. Wingate is ranked No. 42 in the nation and also eighth in the Southeast region. The Bulldogs feature three players with double-digit wins in singles, while the tandem of Duncan Addison and Theo Dessacs leads the way with an 11-3 mark, seven of those wins coming in conference.

Queens carries an 11-1 record including a perfect 9-0 in the South Atlantic Conference play into the weekend. The Royals are ranked ninth in the Southeast region. They are led in singles play by Agustin Aran Martin, who boasts a 10-2 overall record with seven wins within the conference. The duo of Paolo Bompieri and Andor Vas pace Queens in doubles play with an 8-1 record and a perfect 7-0 mark in conference. 

First serve for both matches is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Coker Tennis Courts.
