Cobras Knock off Division I Citadel, Benedict on Saturday

SUMTER, S.C.- The Coker men's tennis team went 2-0 on Saturday (Feb. 11) to go 4-0 for the weekend.

The Cobras defeated The Citadel of Division I 5-4 in their first match of the day. Henrik Hellbe and Hunter Horton picked up a 9-8 win at No. 1 doubles, before Mark Watt and Dominic Allan won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.

Watt (No. 1 singles, 7-6, 1-6, 6-2) and Felix Schweyer (No. 4 singles, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1) earned three-set wins while Allan clinched the match with a 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles.

Coker went on to sweep Benedict 9-0 in the afternoon match, starting with a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles by Hellbe and Horton. Watt and Allan would pick up an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles to clinch doubles play. Watt (No. 1 singles) and Horton (No. 3 singles) each picked up 8-3 wins while Hellbe (No. 2 singles) and Schweyer (No. 4 singles) each won their matches 8-4.

The Cobras host Johnson C. Smith at home on Saturday (Feb. 18) for a 1:00 p.m. start at the Coker Tennis Courts.
