MARS HILL, N.C. –The Coker men's tennis team made it two in a row with a 5-4 South Atlantic Conference win over Mars Hill University on Monday (Apr. 6) afternoon.
The Cobras got off to a hot start, taking an early 2-1 lead, as William Marrafao and Dominic Allan picked up an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, while teammates Zach Grooms and Mark Watt notched an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
Watt continued his stellar play in singles competition, collecting a 6-2, 6-1 straight-set victory at No. 3 singles. Simon Bergbom and Felix Schweyer won Coker's most tightly contested matches of the day. At No. 2 singles, Bergbom would pull out a 7-5, 4-6, 10-3 win, while Schweyer notched a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win at No. 4 singles to give Coker a 5-4 win.
The Cobras will have a quick turnaround as they face SAC foe Wingate at home on Tuesday (Apr. 7) afternoon. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start at the Coker Tennis Courts.
