No. 33 Coker Earns Spot in SAC Semis with 5-0 Victory Over Newberry

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The No. 33 nationally ranked Coker men's tennis team rolled to a 5-0 victory over the Newberry College Wolves in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Food Lion SAC Men's Tennis Championship on Wednesday (Apr. 16). The win advances third-seeded Coker to the semifinals of the SAC Tennis Championship, where they will face the second-seeded Tusculum College Pioneers.

The Cobras (11-7) struck early, as they took all three doubles matches from the Wolves. The No. 8 regionally ranked doubles team of Andre Staab and James Corfield took the No. 1 match 8-5, while Tom Sizeland and William Marrafao won 8-3 at the No. 2 position. Martin Moncayo and Zach Grooms would complete the sweep for Coker with an 8-4 victory at the No. 3 slot. Marrafao would also pick up a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set victory at No. 3 singles for the Navy and Yellow, while Moncayo clinched the match for the Cobras with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.

Coker and Tusculum will faceoff tomorrow (Apr. 17) for a spot in the SAC Tennis Championship finals. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C. Live coverage of the match can be found at www.cokercobras.com
