No. 33 Coker Cruises to 8-1 Victory over Mars Hill

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The No. 33 nationally ranked Coker men's tennis team beat the Mars Hill University Lions 8-1 in a South Atlantic Conference match on Friday (Mar. 28). The Cobras are now 7-1 in conference play and winners of their last five matches.

The Cobras swept the doubles portion of the match with scores of 9-7, 8-4 and 8-3 in No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. The brooms would stay active in singles play as all five of the Navy and Yellow's wins would come by way of straight-sets. Leading the charge was Andre Staab with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1, while Tom Sizeland and Martin Moncayo picked up 6-1, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively. Rounding out the wins for Coker was William Marrafao at No. 3 with a score of 6-3, 7-5 and James Corfield at No. 4 with a score of 6-2, 6-2.

The trio of Staab, Sizeland and Moncayo all improved to 8-0 in conference play, while Sizeland extended his singles win streak to 11 matches.

The Navy and Yellow will hit the road for a SAC matchup against the Wolves of Newberry College next Tuesday (Apr. 1). The match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
