Coker Shuts Out Barton 5-0, Advances to Semifinals

SUMTER, S.C. – The top-seeded Coker men's tennis team shutout the No. 8 seed Barton Bulldogs, 5-0 in the Quarterfinals of the 2013 Conference Carolinas men's tennis tournament on Friday (Apr. 19). With the win, the Cobras advanced to semifinals on Saturday (Apr. 20).

The Cobras opened the match with three straight wins in doubles. Andre Staab and George Handy picked up an 8-6 win at No. 1, followed by an 8-0 win at No. 2 by Tom Sizeland and William Marrafao. James Corfield and Martin Moncayo completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3. 

Then in singles action Corfield and Moncayo picked up wins at No. 4 and No. 6 to secure the 5-0 victory. Corfield defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-1 and Moncayo was victorious with scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

Coker will take on the winner of the match between the No. 4 seed Pfeiffer and the No. 5 seed Queens on Saturday at 9 a.m.
