Coker Makes it Seven in a Row with 5-4 Win Over Wingate

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Cobra men's tennis team picked up their seventh consecutive victory on Saturday (Apr. 13) with a 5-4 win over the Wingate University Bulldogs. The win moves the regionally ranked No. 8 Coker to 16-4 overall.

The Cobras earned a pair of victories in doubles at No. 1 and No. 3, and then closed out match with wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 singles.

Andre Staab was 2-0 on the day with a 9-8 (8-6) win at No.1 doubles with partner George Handy. He then earned the win at No. 1 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Also going 2-0 on the day was Martin Moncayo with wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Moncayo and doubles partner James Corfield won 8-4 and Moncayo won 7-5, 6-2 in his singles match. 

William Marrafao earned the fifth victory of the match for the Cobras with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.

The Cobras will be back on the court for the Conference Carolinas men's tennis tournament April 19-21 at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C. Coker will be the #1 seed in the tournament after completing the regular season with a perfect 10-0 conference record. They will take on the #8 seed at noon on Friday (Apr. 19).
