Cobras Tame Golden Bulls with 8-1 Victory

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Cobra men's tennis team tamed the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith with a nearly perfect 8-1 victory on Sunday (Feb. 24) in non-conference tennis action.

The Cobras swept through doubles play, losing just three total sets. Andre Staab and George Handy picked up an 8-1 win at No. 1, followed by an 8-2 win at No. 2 by Tom Sizeland and William Marrafao. James Corfield and Martin Moncayo closed out doubles action with an 8-0 shutout victory.

Coker proved to be just as dominate in singles play, dropping only 17 of the 78 sets played. Sizeland and Staab won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively, while Handy picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 Marrafao dropped just one set at No. 4, winning 6-0, 6-1 and Zach Grooms earned his first collegiate win at No. 4, winning 6-1, 6-1.

The win improves the Cobra men to 3-2 on the year.

Coker will return to the court on Saturday (March 2). The Cobras will host Lees-McRae in a Conference Carolinas match beginning at 2 p.m.
