Coker Takes Care of Barton, 7-2

WILSON, N.C. – It might have taken just over 24 hours, but the Coker men's tennis team picked up a 7-2 Conference Carolinas win over Barton College on Thursday afternoon.

In a match that originally started on Wednesday, the Cobras continued the dominance they showed in doubles play on Wednesday by winning four of the six singles matches on Thursday.

The Cobras swept doubles play, winning 8-3 at No. 1 and No. 2 and 8-5 at No. 3.

Billy Simpson (Hartsville, S.C.) led the way in singles play with his first singles victory of the season, a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6. Also winning in straight sets were Manel Estruga (Spain) and James Corfield (New Zealand) at No. 3 and No. 4. Both players won with scores of 6-2, 6-1. The fourth singles victory came in three sets at No. 2 by Guillermo Aylon (Spain) with scores of 6-7 (7-5), 6-2, 6-2.

The win improves the Cobras to 5-3 in league play.

Coker will be back in action on Friday at Francis Marion University. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m.
