Coker Men Come From Behind to Defeat Lees-McRae 5-4

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Coker men's tennis team pulled out a 5-4 Conference Carolinas win over Lees-McRae on Sunday. The victory improves the Cobras to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Playing their second match of the weekend indoors due to inclement weather, the Cobras found themselves down 2-1 after doubles play. James Corfield (New Zealand) and Guillermo Aylon (Spain) picked up Coker's lone win in doubles at No. 2 with a 9-8 (7-5) victory.

The Cobras then battled their way back with four singles victories to secure the win as a team. Leonardo Lima (Brazil) won at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1, while Manel Estruga (Spain) earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3. Aylon came from behind to win at No. 4, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 and Ricardo Perez (Corpus Christi, Texas) got the win at No. 6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

The Cobras will take on a Division I opponent in their next match when they make a trip to Winthrop University on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
