HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men’s tennis team was shutout by regional and national power the Francis Marion Patriots on Tuesday afternoon. The nationally ranked No. 14 Patriots defeated the Cobras 9-0.

The men fought hard in each of their matches, as they won games in all but one of the matches played. Coker had their best chances to win at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles. At No. 1 singles James Corfield (New Zealand) lost 6-2, 6-4, while at No. 2 singles Leonardo Lima (Brazil) took a 6-4, 6-2 loss. Then at No. 5 singles Juan Vallejo-Gonzalez (Ecuador) took a 6-3, 7-6 loss.

The Cobras will now prepare for the Conference Carolinas Tennis Championships that start Friday at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C. Coker will be either the #6 or #7 seed depending on the outcome of the final matches of the season on Wednesday.
