HARTSVILLE, S.C. –  The Cobra men’s tennis team improved their Conference Carolinas record to 2-1 on Friday afternoon with an 8-1 win over Belmont Abbey. Coker dropped just one match, No. 1 doubles, but was perfect for the rest of the day.

After losing at No. 1 doubles the Cobras bounced back with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles with scores of 8-2 and 8-1 respectively. Then in singles play the Cobras were near perfect yet again in all but one match.

Guillermo Aylon (Zaragoza, Spain) lost the Coker’s only singles game, losing 6-7 in the first game, but he ended up with the win thanks to a 7-6 win in the second game and then a 10-5 win the tie-breaker. Coker also had great matches at No. 4 singles from Evan Scheriner (Seneca, S.C.) and No. 5 singles from Tycho Lamberigts (Netherlands). Schreiner won his match 6-1, 6-0 and Lamberigts own 6-0, 6-0.

Coker’s will be back on the courts again on Saturday when they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on Conference Carolinas Preseason No. 2 Queens University at 1:00 p.m.
