NEWBERRY, S.C. – With three straight wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles the Cobra men’s tennis team defeated the Wolves of Newberry 5-4; earning their first win of the season.

Trailing 4-2 with three singles matches left to play the Cobras fate rested on the shoulders of Evan Schreiner (Seneca, S.C.), Tycho Lamberigts (Netherlands) and Ricardo Perez (Corpus Christi, Texas). Stepping up to the challenge, each one of them won their matches. Schreiner won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, with Lamberigts winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and Perez picking up the 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6.

Coker’s other two wins came at No. 2 singles with James Corfield (Auckland, New Zealand) winning 7-6, 6-1 and at No. 1 doubles as the duo of Corfield and Guillermo Aylou (Zaragoza, Spain) won 8-4.

The Cobras will look to carry their success into the weekend as they travel to Erskine College for their first Conference Carolinas match of the season. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
