ROCK Hill, S.C. – Even though the Coker’s men’s tennis team was scheduled to play its first match of the 2011 season near two weeks ago, mother nature kept the Cobras off the courts until Saturday when they finally played their first match of the season against Catawba College in Rock Hill, S.C. Unfortunately for the Cobras their first match resulted in an 8-1 loss to the Indians.

The Cobras started the match losing three straight in doubles play, with Juan Vallejo-Gonzalez (Quito, Equador) and Manel Soler (Barcelona, Spain) coming up just short at No. 2 doubles, losing 8-6.

In singles play Coker picked up their one win of the match as freshman Guillermo Aylon (Zaragoza, Spain) defeated Catawba’s Thomas Mitchell 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.

The Cobras return to the courts on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at Methodist College starting at 2:00 p.m.
