HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Cobras men’s tennis lost to Pfeiffer University, 9-0 in a Conference Carolinas men’s tennis match on Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops Coker to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while Pfeiffer improves their record to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

The Falcons swept through doubles play with ease, winning at No.1 and No. 2 doubles 8-2, while picking up an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Singles play seemed to be just as easy for Pfeiffer with a pair of straight set wins by Andrea Cazzaro at No.1 and Sid Kaushik at No. 4. The toughest match of the day on the men’s side came at No. 3 between Coker’s Rick Vliegen and Pfeiffer’s Johan de Wit. Vliegen won the first set 6-2, but de Wit took set two 6-3. It then came down to the tiebreaker set, where de Wit narrowly escaped with the 10-8 win.

Coker will return to the courts on Saturday, when they host Erskine College at 2:00 p.m. Pfeiffer  will continue their road play, traveling to Gardener-Webb University also on Saturday, for a 10:00 a.m. match.
