Hartsville, SC- In a match that saw hostility on and off the courts, the Flying Fleet of Erskine College prevailed in a pivotal Conference Carolinas match up on Wednesday afternoon by defeating the home standing Cobras by a score of 6-3.

Over the past few years, the two schools have created quite a rivalry on the tennis courts and it showed quickly in the opening doubles match ups.  Danny Nash (Hilton Head, SC) and Evan Schreiner (Seneca, SC) won at the No. 2 position by a score of 8-4, while the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles team for the Cobras lost 8-4, and 8-2.

In singles, the fireworks continued and really exploded on court No. 4.  The match up got really heated up on questionable line calls and ended with an altercation at the net with both teams players being separated.  In the end, Coker’s No. 4 player Jeremiah Dye (Summerville, SC) lost the match by a 6-2, 6-4 margin.  Nash won his second match of the day winning at the No. 1 position in three sets by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.  Juan Vallejo-Gonzalez (Quito, Ecuador) got the last point of the day for the Cobras as he found victory at the No. 3 position winning easily 6-4, 6-2.

The Cobras will now look to Senior day this Saturday as they play host to Queens University of Charlotte to pick up their first win of the season.  The match is scheduled to start at 3:00P.M.
