Sumter, S.C - Two members of the Coker Men’s tennis team have been recognized by the Carolinas Virginia Athletic Conference as All-Conference for 2006. Senior Matt Byford (Essex, England) and Junior Duncan Grew (Bath, England) were both awarded honorable mention in men’s tennis by the CVAC.

 

Playing in his final season for Coker, Byford went 6-5 in CVAC singles matches over the spring season. After being named second team all-conference in 2005, he received honorable mention for 2006 at the CVAC Championships in Sumter. His conference singles wins in 2006 included St. Andrews, Belmont Abbey, Limestone, Erskine and two singles wins over Pfeiffer University.

 

Junior Duncan Grew was awarded All-Conference honorable mention for the second straight year. Grew had went 3-7 in the CVAC and had good conference wins at number 1 singles over St. Andrews and Belmont Abbey. His best win came against Erskine College where he defeated the CVAC player of the year in 3 sets.

 

Byford and Grew combined at number 1 doubles for Coker during the year and posted a 5-5 record in regular season.
