Hartsville, SC – Coker Men’s Tennis fell 9-0 on Saturday to CVAC conference leaders Anderson University on Saturday. The strong Anderson team raced to an early lead in doubles and continued their powerful play in singles as they rolled to a 9-0 win and a 7-0 CVAC record.

Tim Morton and Tyson Thompson had a good performance at number 3 doubles but ended up falling 8-5. Anderson showed their class at the top doubles positions as they took a 3-0 advantage in to the singles matches.

Duncan Grew took the match to his opponent at number 1 singles but the nation’s 12th ranked player from Anderson had too much guile and ended up earning a 6-2 6-3 win. Matt Byford brought some classical serve volley play to the Coker Tennis Center at 2 singles. However, he could not claw his way back from early losses of serve at the beginning of each set and fell 6-3 6-4 in the tie’s closest match. Tim Morton was unlucky at 3 singles and suffered from some tough breaks in his 6-1 6-4 defeat.

Anderson proved their strength by rolling through 4, 5 and 6 singles matches for the loss of just two games on each court. The Cobras are now 3-8 for the season and next play Lander University, the nation’s 11th ranked team at home this Sunday at 1.30pm.
