Hartsville, SC – Coker Men’s Tennis played well and were unfortunate to go down 9-0 to a very strong USC Aiken team. Coker lost close matches at number 1 doubles and 3 singles and competed well at several other positions.

It was the Peach belt team that came out strongly with convincing wins at number two and three doubles. Matt Byford and Duncan Grew forced the number one pair from USC Aiken to a tie break at 8-8 and narrowly lost a tense tie break to fall 9-8.

Tim Morton played a very good match at 3 singles and took the early initiative by winning the first set 6-3. USC Aiken fought back and took the match to a deciding third set. The hard hitting, long rallies continued in to the third set and Morton held on to 5-5 in the final set until he succumbed to lose 7-5.

With no play in the last four days due to inclement weather, the Cobras still played a good match to take in to upcoming conference battles. Matt Byford went close at 1 singles, only to fall 6-4 6-3 and Danny Nash played a tough match at 4 singles where he was on the reverse of a 6-3 6-3 score line.

The Cobras move to 1-3 for the season and next play CVAC conference rivals St. Andrews away, starting at 3pm tomorrow
