Hartsville, SC – Coker Men’s Tennis dropped their opening CVAC meet of the year to Queens University of Charlotte 7-2. Many matches could have gone either way but it was Queens who came out on top in some close three set matches to earn the win.

Coker earned a good win at three doubles as Tyson Thompson and Tim Morton won 8-2. However, Queens took the initiative at one doubles and held on for a close 9-7 win at two doubles over Danny Nash and Dustin Yager to lead going in to singles.

Coker dropped three set matches at number one and two singles which turned the match in Queens’ favor. Matt Byford opened with a 6-4 first set win but fell short in a three set loss at number one. Duncan Grew agonizingly lost 7-6 in the final set in a marathon match at two singles. Danny Nash also came close at number four singles only to go down 10-8 in the final set tie-breaker.

The lone singles win for Coker came at number six singles where Tyson Thompson backed up his doubles victory to go 2 for 2 for the Cobras on the day. He dropped a close opening set before storming back 6-1 in the second. The two players grinded out a long third set tie-breaker and it was Thompson who came out on top.

The Cobras move to 1-2 for the season and 0-1 in the CVAC. Upcoming matches this weekend have been postponed to a later date because of expected bad weather.
